ABOUT THE COMPANY
The A-CAP group consists of five life insurance/reinsurance companies/captives, an asset manager and various other non-insurance companies. The asset manager primarily invests in structured securities including CLOs, CMBS, ABS and collateralized lending, direct real estate lending, private credit, and equity for both internal and external clients. A-CAP’s management team and operational professionals have diverse experience and proven success across the insurance, reinsurance, and investment sectors with an average of 20 years of experience. Assets under management are approximately $10 billion and growing at over $500 million, annually. A-CAP’s offices are in New York, Salt Lake City, and Miami.
A-CAP Management “ACM” is the asset management arm of A-CAP. ACM formally launched in April 2014 as an SEC registered investment advisor. As of 12/31/21, ACM manages $4.9B of assets. ACM aims to provide a cost-effective way for small to mid-size insurance companies to rapidly gain exposure to less liquid and new asset classes that are generally outside the scope of traditional insurance company asset managers. Our overriding goal is to positively impact an insurance company’s financial position and support their long-term stability and growth through:
- Maintaining credit quality and matching asset liability profiles
- Strengthening the insurance company balance sheet
- Maintaining or improving return on capital
- Supporting long term stability and growth with acute sensitivity to insurance regulatory, accounting, and capital issues
- Spreading cost-of-team across other similarly situated insurance companies
A-CAP is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Portfolio Management & Operations Analyst to join our Strategic Investments & Capital Markets (SICM) group within the Asset Management Department of Advantage Capital Management (“A-CAP”). This role will support the management, operations, and execution of complex investments, spanning strategic investments investing in private credit, private equity, and hybrid securities. An ideal candidate for this role will possess strong analytical and technical skills, a keen eye for attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
The Portfolio Management & Operations Analyst will collaborate closely with the Head of SICM, senior deal team members, external advisors, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth execution and management of new and existing investments. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to unique and challenging investment situations, providing operational support for specialized transactions across various asset classes with a pathway to an investment professional seat for top performers.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Collaborate with portfolio managers, external advisors, and management teams to ensure the accurate recording and monitoring of new transactions and existing investments
- Assist portfolio managers in developing and monitoring value creation plans for new and existing investments
- Building and maintaining key performance indicators for current investments and supporting senior managers and management teams with ad hoc financial analyses
- Assist in the management of operational workflows related to new investments, capital raises, distributions, and new investment onboarding
- Identify opportunities to improve and streamline internal processes and implement best practices portfolio management and operations
- Manage group infrastructure including various databases, folder organization, internal data collection systems, and ad hoc operational items
- Manage bookkeeping functions for multiple investment types including trade reconciliations, financial statement reconciliations, and the review and processing of legal documentation
- Prepare periodic financial reports and presentations for management and investors ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulatory and accounting standards

- Perform periodic cash, position, and transaction reconciliations between internal records, fund administrators, and other internal teams
- Ensure integrity and accuracy of financial data, maintaining strong internal controls and supporting systems used for fund operations
- Assist in the creation of investment committee memos and the construction of complex financial models for current and future investments
- Conduct investment and industry-specific strategic and financial research
- Provide ad hoc analysis to support new transactions and structuring efforts
- Support various aspects of the due diligence process for new portfolio investments
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 2-3 years of experience in portfolio management, fund accounting, or operations at a fund, investment manager, or large accounting firm
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, including GAAP or IFRS
- Familiarity with financial instruments, and investments including loans, bonds, private equity, and other alternative assets
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other financial modeling tools
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to work independently
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., 40 hours weekly, or as otherwise arranged with the manager of the department.
