We are seeking a highly motivated and analytically driven Senior Data Modeling Engineer to join our team at the intersection of accounting, actuarial science, and technology. This role is critical to our data ecosystem, supporting the ingestion, validation, and analysis of complex financial and annuity data received from third-party administrators (TPAs), banks, custodians, and other financial counterparties. The ideal candidate brings a rare blend of financial acumen, investigative curiosity, and technical skill — someone who can bridge the gap between business stakeholders and data systems.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Data Ingestion & Management — Receive, process, and manage data files from TPAs, banks, custodians, and other external financial partners, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
Annuity & Accounting File Processing — Work extensively with annuity administration data and accounting files; understand their structure, content, and downstream implications
Data Investigation & Root Cause Analysis — Apply strong investigative skills to identify data anomalies, reconciliation breaks, and discrepancies; trace issues to their source and drive resolution
Cross-Functional Collaboration — Serve as a key liaison between Accounting, Actuarial, and Technology teams, translating business requirements into data solutions and vice versa
SQL Querying & Analysis — Write and maintain SQL queries to extract, transform, and validate data; support ad hoc analysis requests from finance and actuarial teams
Data Quality & Controls — Establish and monitor data quality checks and controls; document data lineage and transformation logic
Reporting Support — Assist in the preparation of data feeds and summaries supporting financial statements, actuarial valuations, and regulatory reporting
Process Improvement — Identify opportunities to automate or streamline data workflows, reducing manual effort and error risk
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams, including Finance, Actuarial, Operations, and Technology.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills with the ability to identify data issues, determine root causes, and drive resolution.
- Experience with ETL processes, data pipelines, workflow automation tools, and cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Python, SSIS, Alteryx, dbt, Snowflake, AWS, Azure).
- Experience managing and validating structured financial data from internal and external sources, including TPAs, custodians, banks, and other third-party providers.
- Proficiency in SQL, including writing and optimizing queries using joins, aggregations, and data transformations.
- Familiarity with actuarial and insurance data concepts, including reserves, policy liabilities, and valuation data.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles, general ledger concepts, financial statements, and insurance regulatory reporting requirements (GAAP, Statutory, and NAIC).
- Experience within the insurance or financial services industry, including hands-on exposure to annuity products, annuity administration data, and related business processes.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data analytics, financial data management, or a related role.
