ABOUT THE COMPANY
A-CAP is a rapidly growing organization that owns and operates multiple insurance companies and ancillary insurance businesses and has over $10 billion of total invested assets. This opening is with the holding company, which primarily performs asset management, actuarial, accounting, and other oversight functions on behalf of A-CAP’s insurers and third-party clients. This group also provides strategic and operational support to A-CAP’s portfolio companies/subsidiaries, proactively formulates new investment strategies, oversees external financing and acquisition activities, and provides modeling support for insurer liabilities and capital. On the insurance product side, A-CAP’s primary lines of business are traditional fixed and equity-indexed annuities, with additional business in whole life insurance, Medicare supplement, and hospital indemnity products. A-CAP insurers originate over $2 billion of new premium annually.

ABOUT THE ROLE
A-CAP seeks qualified candidates for the position of Chief Compliance Officer (“CCO”).  The CCO will report to the Chief Legal Officer of ACAP with further direct reporting responsibilities to the governing boards of ACAP’s insurance affiliates.

The A-CAP CCO is responsible for all activities relating to the development, implementation, monitoring, and administration of A-CAP’s compliance program and for assuring enterprise-wide compliance with applicable laws and A-CAP policies. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Development, documentation, implementation, and monitoring of an enterprise-wide compliance program, policies and procedures in accordance with applicable laws and best practices;
  • Development and implementation of initial and regular risk assessments of the A-CAP compliance program;
  • Oversight and administration of compliance audits;
  • Development and implementation of reporting protocols appropriately designed to detect, prevent, and remediate compliance risks for the A-CAP enterprise;
  • Development, implementation, and administration of appropriate controls to monitor the effectiveness of the A-CAP compliance program;
  • Recruitment and training of qualified compliance officers and other staff with the requisite knowledge and experience to effectively implement the A-CAP compliance program and carry out compliance-related duties for A-CAP;
  • Development and implementation of compliance training programs for A-CAP personnel on topics relevant to A-CAP operations;
  • Monitoring of changes in applicable law and standards in order to advise A-CAP on emerging compliance issues and proactively respond to such issues;
  • Provision of ongoing guidance to A-CAP governing boards, senior management, and staff regarding corporate and business compliance standards and issues;
  • Oversight and administration of compliance investigations in coordination with the Chief Legal Officer and external counsel, as appropriate;
  • Coordination, oversight and administration of ACAP’s interaction with and reporting to regulators;
  • Reporting to A-CAP governing boards and senior management regarding the status of compliance on an enterprise-wide basis and other relevant compliance issues;
  • Development and administration of due-diligence programs relating to A-CAP’s relationship with vendors and other third-parties.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
  • Undergraduate degree, with preference for graduate degree in law (J.D.) or business administration (M.B.A.);
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience with development and administration of company-wide compliance program;
  • Prior managerial experience in administration of a life insurance compliance department, including development of compliance policies, oversight and implementation of risk assessment procedures and training programs;
  • Knowledge and understanding of life insurance compliance and regulatory issues, including variable and fixed annuities, mortality-based insurance, and insurance products, along with knowledge and understanding of applicable securities rules and regulations;
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and work effectively with employees at all levels;
  • Ability to meet or exceed deadlines, prioritize, multi-task, and maintain flexibility in fast-paced, changing environment;
  • Superior organizational, written, verbal and presentation skills;
  • Strong problem-solving and project management skills.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., 40 hours weekly, or as otherwise arranged with the manager of the department.
