ABOUT THE ROLE
SSL has an immediate opening for a self-motivated, resourceful, and well-organized candidate to join the team as a Reinsurance Accounting Director/Manager. The Reinsurance Accounting Director/Manager will work closely with the Insurance Controller and Reinsurance Accountants to ensure accurate accounting within SSL’s growth-focused reinsurance function. This position will manage the reinsurance accounting team in administering all aspects of all reinsurance agreements in accordance with treaty parameters and ensuring proper accounting treatment for all reinsurance transactions. This position is responsible for reviewing and approving journal entries for premiums, allowances, claims recoverable, and updating and maintaining the parameters to support business needs. This role will entail frequent communication with third-party reinsurers, Finance Team members, and auditors to ensure that SSL is fulfilling all the requirements of its reinsurance agreements.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Hire, train, develop, motivate and evaluate the Reinsurance Accounting staff
- Administer existing and new reinsurance agreements according to treaty parameters.
- Review and maintain spreadsheets tracking treaty activity.
- Analyze new reinsurance agreements and recommend and establish procedures for capturing transactions accurately and reporting to reinsurers.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and complete calculations, recording, reporting, and billing in accordance with treaty terms.
- Review journal entries as required for reinsurance activity.
- Review reconciliations of reinsurance related activity, proactively identify issues, and take corrective action when necessary.
- Manage financial reporting while simultaneously overseeing reinsurance payables/receivables.
- Design and evaluate internal controls related to reinsurance processes.
- Develop and document or review and update reinsurance policies and procedures.
- Respond to internal and external audit inquiries.
- Communicate with Finance Team members, third-party reinsurers, and senior management from across the company.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with 7+ years of relevant work experience, including at least 3 years in the annuities and reinsurance industry (life Insurance experience is a plus);
- Experience supervising accounting staff or any combination of education, professional training, or work experience that demonstrates ability to perform the job.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel; working experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook; SQL is a plus.
- Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts, in both verbal and written forms, to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to build relationships with diverse team members from across the organization.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., 40 hours weekly, or as otherwise arranged with the manager of the department.
